Ananda takes a vigorous, devotional, and creative approach to asana, whereby postures flow from one to the other in continuous, dynamic movement linked by the breath. Influenced by athleticism gleaned from childhood gymnastics and the infinite choreographic possibilities of dance, Ananda’s sequencing is unconventional, yet remains true to the rhythm of the breath as the main focal point of awareness.
Ananda found yoga in NY, where as a sedentary video editor she was given the prescription of yoga from a physical therapist to alleviate debilitating muscle spasms and overall stress. She soon experienced the meditative qualities of the practice, and found movement to be her greatest medicine.
Ananda has two 200-HR teaching certifications, from Frog Lotus Yoga in Costa Rica (2008) and Laughing Lotus Yoga Center in San Francisco (2009). She has taught a wide variety of students in diverse locales: from surfers and Mixed Martial Artists in San Francisco, an Olympian horseback rider in the Philippines, study-abroad students and expats at Yoga Center in Madrid, Spain, to absolute beginners in New Orleans. Ananda humbly acknowledges her teachers Jacqueline Vidya Heisel, Jasmine Tarkeshi, and Dana Flynn.
