Catherine started practicing yoga as a teenager and hasn’t looked back since that first time she floated out of a yoga class. Discovering yoga at an early age has given her a deep and intuitive understanding of the physical practice and a holistic approach to it as a way of life.
A New Orleans native, she received her BFA from the Cooper Union in New York, where she was also a regular student at the Jivamukti Center. After graduation, she spent three months in northern India studying yoga, Tibetan Buddhism, and how to recover from typhoid fever. She returned to New Orleans after Katrina and completed her teacher training at Swan River in 2009. Further studies in a variety of traditions, including Iyengar, Anusara, Ashtanga, and Thai massage inform her teaching and practice today. Challenging and accessible at the same time, her classes combine skillful and creative instruction of vinyasa flow and alignment with an emphasis on the breath and staying mindful. Her students especially love her hands-on adjustments.
In 2012 she moved to Barcelona for the year to pursue an advanced degree in graphic design and teach yoga (en español!). In addition to teaching yoga, she moonlights as a freelance designer and is especially aware of the value of yoga as an antidote to many hours spent in “laptop asana.” Sixteen years of consistent practice and five years of teaching have shown her that yoga is about being a life-long student. She acknowledges with gratitude all the teachers and students she has learned from throughout the years, and considers the yoga practice to be a precious gift – one she is eternally grateful to have received and humbly honored to share.
