We are proud to participate in this years Park(ing) Day! Here’s your official invitation to come and see our submission this Saturday. Our miniature studio “parklet” will be located in between Magazine and Tchoupitoulas on the 400 block of Julia st. We will have instructors out all day leading mini classes, deconstructing poses, and providing info about our studio and what we do. Details about the event below the poster.
What: PARK(ing) Day is an annual, open-source global event where citizens, artists and activists collaborate to temporarily transform metered parking spaces into “PARK(ing)” spaces: temporary public places. The project began in 2005 when Rebar, a San Francisco art and design studio, converted a single metered parking space into a temporary public park in downtown San Francisco. Since 2005, PARK(ing) Day has evolved into a global movement, with organizations and individuals creating new forms of temporary public space in urban contexts around the world. The event is a chance to reclaim and activate our city providing a new territory for creative experi- mentation and activism. We hope PARK(ing) Day will cultivate the sense of civic pride, improve our city’s local urban environment, incubate new urban programs, and evolve the way we think about the design and craft of urban place making. As part of an initiative to activate public space in New Orleans Downtown area, hosting PARK(ing) Day on Julia Street, adjacent to art galleries seeks to draw participants from the New Orleans Convention Center events to engage with the city’s contemporary art and design scene.
